Purpose
The purpose of this competition is to encourage both experienced and new playwrights to write about
subjects and issues of interest to the lesbian community. By providing a forum for these works, we
hope to increase the number of relevant plays that not only focus on the lesbian experience but also
celebrate lesbian culture in the United States.
This is the first of what we anticipate will be an annual competition.
How it works:
- Full-length plays only, no musicals/children’s plays
- $20 entry fee per play submission
- Top 3 – 5 scripts will be presented in a readers’ theatre format to a public audience
- The audience will provide written feedback that will help determine the winning play
- Prizes:
- $1000 cash prize
- The winning play will be produced during our 2008-2009 season
Contest Timeline
- Entries postmarked by May 31, 2008
- Finalists announced early August 2008
- Staged readings of finalists’ scripts in August and early September 2008
- Winning play announced mid-October 2008
